False Messiahs and False Prophets

“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time. “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.” Matthew 24:22-28 NIV

First, the Lord mentioned that the final days of distress will be cut short. If not, He says, no one would survive.

The Lord also tells us to be aware that there will be many false prophets, and even some who will claim to be the Messiah. He tells us that it will be without doubt at the time of His second coming. It will be like lightning coming from the east, that can be seen even in the west. There will be no mistaking it at the time Christ comes again. So, we are being alerted to false prophets and false sightings of the Messiah.

We must spend our time doing the work the Lord has given to us. We must read His word, and often spend time in prayer with Him. We must not allow ourselves to be side tracked with all the news and events associated with the end times. There is still time left to be spent on the harvest. Let us obediently be found doing the work of our Lord when He comes again.
