“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” Matthew 23:37-39 NIV

There are two takeaways I would like to mention from this passage of scripture.

First, Christ has pity on the sinner. Our sin lead Christ to the cross, that, through Him we may be redeemed, and be able to stand in the presence of God the Father, justified by the blood of the Savior, sacrificed for our eternal salvation. I can envision tears in our Savior’s eyes as He laments over the city. Christ yearns for us to turn to Him, that we might be saved through Him.

Secondly, a majority of mankind will reject the Lord, and the saving love which He offers. God will not force salvation upon us. We have to make the choice to follow Jesus, accepting Him as our Savior, and living a life obedient to Him. Some can only see the instant gratification of the here and now before them. They have no room for anything which is not self-serving. But Christ tells us that we must lose our lives in order to find them.

We are blessed to have a Savior who is merciful and compassionate. Be sure you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior.
