1 Samuel 17:1-58
Goliath of Gath
4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
A bullying spirit, highly egoistic and boastfully arrogant and dependent upon his horses, chariots and weapons of warfare
He mocks and inflicts fear in everyone around, he is bent on having the upper hand by all means possible, to defeat and destroy. Whatever problems may be confronting you that appears in this format or an individual(s) that has planted him or herself as with the spirit of Goliath to put fear in you and terrorise you, decide to stand firm with the strength of the holy spirit and courage of God (2 Timothy 1:7) to battle and demand your portion from the hands of wicked pursuers.
God calls His people to be strong and have faith in Him because the battle is His. Scripture is redundant in this truth; we fight and defeat Goliath when we face Him in the power of the Holy Spirit.
26 And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel?
for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
1 Samuel 17:
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the
of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
This day will the
deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
...Saul said to David, "'Go, and the LORD be with you.' 38 Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. 39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. 'I cannot go in these,' he said to Saul, 'because I am not used to them.' So he took them off. 40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
2 Kings 6:13
David, the eighth and youngest son of Jesse, the Bethlehemite
, quite strong and he had uncommon characteristics among his people at the time the time. He was a keeper of sheep right from an early age defending the flocks from the wild animals, including lions and bears, that preyed upon them. The free time that being a shepherd provided also allowed him to develop two other skills, that of music and poetry. David was a warrior, and a writer of psalms.
Goliath is a formidable enemy that can be destroyed in the spirit of God and not in our flesh, yielding ourselves to the Spirit's control and trust in His power to overcome wickedness in high places that taunt and torment.
