They Just Didn't Get It

The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise’?” Matthew 21:14-16 NIV

Jesus did many wonderful deeds. The children shouted words of adoration. And all this made the Jewish leaders indignant. What’s not to like about someone healing people who are sick? Were the Jewish leaders happy when they became ill, or did they seek a doctor? They were totally clueless as to who this man was, the Son of God.

Jesus often quoted scripture which was appropriate for the discussion which He had with the Jewish leaders. These men prided themselves on knowing scripture. They may have known the words, but, they certainly did not understand their meaning. Oh, and yes, there were the man-made traditions which they taught as being sacred. They sealed their eternal fate by ignoring the One who came to save. They would not allow their minds to be open to the truth.

We must pray that many will be touched today by the Lord’s will. We must pray that many will come to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. We must continue to work on the harvest, which is ripe.
