Honor, Deliverance, and Praise

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” Matthew 21:8-11 NIV

Here we have the crowd which entered Jerusalem ahead and behind Jesus honoring Him in both word and deed. Some spread their cloaks on the ground. This certainly is an act of homage to a king. Putting palm branches on the ground ahead of the Messiah was also a way of saluting Him.

Originally, Hosanna was used as a word for an appeal for deliverance. Later it became a word for praise and adoration. We sure do need deliverance from sin, and Jesus provides salvation for our deliverance.

When we approach Christ, do we remember first to honor Him, to offer praise and adoration, and to ask for deliverance? We certainly need to keep this in mind concerning our times in prayer with the Lord.
