Yesterday I went to visit a friend. The interior of her home is like a forest with rocks and tree paintings along with nature-esque wall sculptures. The atmosphere feels like a retreat.
She has a little room between her house and garage that is designated as a prayer room with large windows facing her front and back yard. The place is filled with books and meaningful objects that direct her thoughts toward prayer.
Graham Cooke and Anne Voskamp are the authors of the books you will find on the coffee table between two comfy chairs. The words of Smith Wigglesworth and Andrew Wommack are stacked on the shelves of her cozy room with a wood stove. Sometimes her green-eyed black cat wanders in. That day we prayed that he would be a good cat and not a naughty one.
This friend is the former prayer partner who helped me learn to speak in tongues. She is on the prayer team of the church I used to go to, yet she hadn’t learned to move in the prophetic. Maybe this is because I was on that prayer team under a leader who was a prophet. Later she became a part of that same prayer team that is now under someone who has more of a healing anointing.
Our training has been different. Her focus and training is in physical and inner-healing and my focus has been on prophetic-intercession though I have been trained in discerning of spirits as well as faith and emotional healing.
Yesterday she learned how to move in the manifestation gift of prophecy. We started off praising and praying in tongues for five minutes and then we listened. I gave a simple word first and then she slowly gave me ‘one word’ prophetic utterances and they were all accurate. This was her first time prophesying and she nailed it.
She had struggled with not being able to speak up. It true that she is an introvert and many times we have to wait for the jabbering extroverts to quit rambling on. The Holy Spirit led her into why her voice had been bound. That day, her voice was released. We put those two past incidences under the blood.
You don’t have to be a prophet or have the gift of prophecy to move in the prophetic. The manifestation gift of prophecy is for everyone in the body of Christ. Her gifts are compassion, serving/giving and encouragement. Compassion is one of the intercessory gifts and so is giving. Compassion is concerned about the physical and emotional pain of others. Giving is about helping others with their needs.
She also shared an incident at work that revealed that she had a word of knowledge for someone. She ‘just knew something’ about a woman and spoke it out. It was found to be true.
Sometimes we have ‘knowings’ about people, and we don’t know how we know it. The Holy Spirit gives us that information but we don’t always call that a word of knowledge. But that’s what it is. Sometimes putting words to experiences help people to understand that they are flowing in the prophetic. Now she is looking for ways in which God can give insights to her for other people.
If you or someone you know doesn’t flow in the prophetic (assuming they are a Christian) then there just may be some hindrance or perhaps there has been a lack of training. Take the time to train others up in the gift of prophecy. Many in the body of Christ simply don’t know that all can prophecy.
