From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Matthew 16:21-23 NIV
Jesus wanted the disciples to know about His upcoming death. The disciples did not totally understand the mission of the Messiah. Man’s ways are not God’s ways. What man believes to be important, God sees differently. I can understand what Peter did. How is it that the Son of God must die?
Satan is constantly at work, trying to sabotage work done for the kingdom of God. He definitely is a stumbling block. We have been given the Holy Spirit to remind us all that the Lord says and asks of us. We need the indwelling Spirit to help us battle evil. We cannot do it of our own self. Concerns of this world will get to us unless we abide by the Spirit given to us by the Father. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Follow His path. Speak the truth of Him, and let your actions reflect that truth.
