Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. Matthew 16:24-27 NIV

Our life span on this earth is limited. It is like a blinking of the eye compared to the eternity that we shall spend somewhere. Those of this world have a limited mind. They can only see the here and now. Better go for everything we can, for tomorrow we are gone. It is true that we will be gone, but, only from this earth. Would you really want to forfeit your soul for eternity just to have something now that will not accompany you when you leave this world? Sacrificing in this life, to receive an eternal reward is not too much for the Lord to ask of us. The Lord’s whole life was that of sacrificing, giving that others might receive. He is the Son of God, yet He did not seek for Himself.

Unfortunately, far too many will accept the rewards of the here and now in this world, forfeiting their souls eternally. I feel sorry for them. We should pray for them, that they might have a change of heart and soul. No price that we can pay can redeem our soul. We must give our all to Christ, giving up our earthly life, to receive an eternal life with Him.
