“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. Matthew 13:44-46 NIV

When one sells something, they part ways with it in exchange for some form of compensation. We must sell our old self, give it up, in order to receive a new life, centered in Jesus Christ. We must do so as these two ways of living life are conflicting to each other. Just as selling requires a decision, so, we must decide to turn our lives over to the Lord, to ask to Him to come into our hearts and change us from our old selves to one attune to His word and will.

The treasure and the pearls mentioned in the abbreviated parables are symbols of the kingdom of God and all the blessings we receive as followers of Jesus Christ. The more we give ourselves to the Lord, the better we understand all with which we are blessed. The blessings we are given are abundant, and fill us with the love, joy, and peace of the Lord, as we live our new life according to the directing of the indwelling Spirit.

Never lose sight of the treasures, the pearls which you have received in living your life for the Lord.
