“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” Matthew 13:18-23 NIV

Herein, Jesus provides to His disciples, and to us, the interpretation of the parable of the sower. Pay attention to the first word of the passage, listen. When we read scripture, we must be very attentive, listening not only with ears, but also with our heart. From our heart comes forth our actions. We must take in the word of God with our heart if we mean to properly apply it to our lives. If one has issues with understanding what a scripture passage is telling us, there are numerous sources available that can assist. Most of us own computers, and can use the internet to help us with scripture passages we have issues with understanding. We also should pray to the Lord to provide us with wisdom to understand what is written in the Bible.

When in reading the word of God, always keep your heart and mind open to that which He has to tell you in His word. We are truly blessed to have His word.
