The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. Matthew 13:10-13 NIV

Why is it that many in the time of Christ, and also today, do not hear what Christ has to say in parables? Could it be that they listen with their minds, and not with their heart? Christ speaks to the heart of man. The heart originates the good or evil which comes forth from each of us. God is spirit, and to commune with Him, we must commune with spirit. The heart and spirit of the Christian are aligned to Jesus Christ. The heart of the Christian hears the word of Christ, and joy is thus brought to that one’s spirit. The heart of the Christian can hear what is said in Christ’s parables, as the truth is what is being sought.

Listen to Christ’s words in faith. He has the answers to the true meaning of life. Let your faith direct you in “hearing” that which Christ has to say. Hear with your heart. Let that then move to your mind and soul.
