The Seed We Become

Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Matthew 13:3-9 NIV

This is a quite familiar parable told by our Lord. At one time or another in our life, most of us could have been associated with each of the above outcomes to the seed. Many of us at one time were not truly Christians and were like the seed which the birds ate up. When we first became Christians we needed mentoring, as worldly traps and the evil one were after us to bring us back to that which is of the world. We need a more mature Christian to aid us so that we don’t let that which we have been given by the Lord get choked off by problems and worldly desires.

When we become mature Christians the fruit which we bear can be thirty, sixty, or one hundred-fold. The importance lies not in the magnitude. The importance is that it is good fruit. Christ is pleased with us bearing good fruit. If we focus on the amount of the fruit, then the quality could become less desirable. Just focus on Christ and serving Him. He will ensure the fruit coming forth from you is good for the kingdom of God.
