“But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36-37 NIV
Jesus speaks words here that I believe we often look past. We truly need to consider what we wish to say before we say it. I am as guilty as anyone else of speaking before thinking. So, we are told that we will need to give an account for every empty word we have spoken.
So, what can we do about this? We first can approach the Lord, asking for forgiveness for wrong things we have said. Then, going forward, we can really think about that which we wish to say. This is not an easy task, but, the Lord will help if you are truly ready to be careful about your speech.
Speak wisely. Let what you have to say be what is in your heart, coming from an indwelling Spirit of God.
