Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. The statements of the Jewish leaders never cease to amaze me. How stupid to say that Jesus cast out demons by the prince of demons. Demons don’t fight against demons. No, they fight against those who are for God. Satan does not wish to lose the strength that he thinks he has by having his comrades fight against each other. Demons are focused on doing the work of the devil, and that means fighting against believers.

Jesus tried to speak to a common sense which the Jewish leaders did not possess. Nothing He did or said could change the minds of the leaders. All they wanted was that Jesus be destroyed.

Listen not to foolish talk. Follow in the words and the ways of the Lord.
