Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus. Matthew 12:9-14 NIV
The minds of the Jewish leaders were so out of kilter. What a ridiculous question they asked, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” He put them in their place by letting them know that they would certainly rescue their sheep if it fell into a pit on the Sabbath. How is that not to be considered work, then, if healing was considered work? But, it did not matter to the leaders. What ever Jesus said or did was wrong in their eyes. Their minds truly were possessed by the evil one. Jesus tried to reach out to them, but, they would not allow Him to reach to them.
Christ reaches out to the multitudes today. Too many, though, will not accept Christ, nor His invitation to come to Him. The things of this world seem to mesmerize.
Let us work to reach out to those seeking truth. Truth can only be found in Jesus Christ.
