Where Is Our Focus to Be?

“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts—no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep. Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.” Matthew 10:9-15 NIV

Our Lord provided further instruction to His disciples for their journey. They were not to go get any money to take with them. If they had some on them, I believe it was OK to take it with them. The Lord just did not want them to delay. The same applies to us today. We do not need to put our priority on providing money for ourselves. Our priority needs to be on doing God’s work. Just as Christ spoke with the disciples about seeking a house in which to stay, when we speak of Christ to people, if they accept the word, then blessing shall rest upon them. If they do not accept that which is preached to them, the blessing will then return to us, as we go on sharing the Good News. Those who do not accept God’s word will face an eternity cast out from Him. We can, and should pray for those who do not accept the word, asking that they might have a change of heart before it is too late.

Remember, our focus is to be on sharing God’s word with others. There are many lost souls that need to hear the Good News.
