These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” Matthew 10:5-8 NIV

We do not know for how long Jesus was sending out the twelve disciples. Before sending them though, He had some specific instructions. They were only to go to the lost sheep of Israel. He also told them the message to share.

Most of us have not been given the gift of cleansing people of diseases, or removing demons, so, how can we apply this passage to our lives?

First, we can, and need to share the message that the kingdom of God is near. So many lost souls yearn for this, and don’t yet know it. We must share the message, that others may turn their lives over to Christ. Secondly, we have been freely given, and thus must freely give. Christ has blessed us with much abundance, and we are taught by the Holy Spirit. We must share the gifts we have been given. They are not given to us to hoard. Share the wealth that Christ has blessed you with, and you will receive even more.
