Judging Others

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Matthew 7:1-2 NIV

We must admit it. We do judge others. Often, we may not even stop to realize that we are doing as such. I am as guilty as anyone else in terms of judging people. We must focus intently on not doing as such. We need to pray to the Lord, asking for help in refraining from doing this forbidden act. When we do judge, we need to approach the Lord, seeking forgiveness. We need to think about why we do judge others, and what we can do differently to avoid doing so.

We do not want to let our worldly behavior be our judgement when we stand before the Lord. Ask the Lord to help you so that you do not judge.

Judging others is something we need God to help us not to do. Earlier this afternoon, at a shared meal for the homeless and needy, some people were talking about their drug and alcohol problems and that they had spent jail time, etc. One guy said he fell apart when his wife committed suicide and he lost the house, etc. For the Christian, such tragedies can be dealt with rightly when you have God in your life and you handle it through God's Word.

We are all sinners and, although sinful behavior can't be excused by tragedy, we should realize that we are capable of doing something like that, so don't throw the first stone.
