“The QB Mentor”

    You may have heard this before; but it bears repeating.  This book is a ‘good read’ for a number of reasons.  Some of them having to do with sports, and some of them outside of the realm of sports, and into the realm of parenting.  Scott Stankavage and Robert Irvin have come together to write: “The QB Mentor:  Words of Wisdom from an NFL Veteran for an Injured Quarterback…That Can Improve Your Life and Career (2015, 218 pages, Clovercroft Publishing).

    The ‘hidden jewel’ among the pages is Coach Steve Wilson, former NFL standout and a college football coach in his own right.  The son of a legendary NFL player, Coach Wilson is the glue that cements and builds the relationship between Scott Stankavage and his son, Shawn.  Scott is a former NFL player himself, who had played the quarterback position.  Shawn, following in his father’s footsteps as a high school star QB who has a bad injury.  Coach Wilson ‘takes Shawn on’ in order to get him ready for a return to the gridiron, and entrance into the world of college football.

    There are a variety of surprises in this work.  Coach Wilson’s connection to the Madden football franchise, for one.  Plus, an unplanned battle between Scott and his health because of a negative report from his doctor.  One of the other ‘sleepers’ in this book deals with the issue of blended families, and some previously unknown information on the need for fathers to raise sons to become better men.
