Splendor of the World

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Matthew 4:8-10 NIV

All that the devil could offer Jesus were the kingdoms of this world with their splendor. Do we really want our wants and desires to be limited to that which this world can offer? Is there true satisfaction in that which this world offers us? Those who answer yes to these two questions have chosen to bow down in worship to the devil.

God’s presence is limitless. God is Spirt, and we must worship Him as such. If we are of this world, we cannot reach out to God, for God is beyond that which belongs to this world.

Just as Jesus told Satan to get away from Him, so must we do the same. Satan has no power over those who belong to Christ. Christ protects us from Satan. We can ask the Lord to humbly cast Satan from our presence when we are tormented by him.

Just as Christ conquered sin, through Him we are no longer enslaved to sin. Temptations will come and go, but Christ is our victory.
