Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Matthew 4:5-7 NIV

 

Ah, yes, even Satan can quote scripture. Again, the devil attempts to trap Jesus into sin by asking Him to prove that He is the Son of God. See how cunning and deceitful the devil can be? Jesus needed no proof that He was God’s Son. He came from God, so, He knows He is the second member of the Holy Trinity.

 

Do not be surprised at what measures the evil one will take to lead you into temptation. He will use everything available in his arsenal. This is why we must constantly pray that we not be led into temptation. Ask for deliverance from evil. Remember that Christ is by your side, and the Spirit indwells you. Temptation is conquered alone by having God present with you. On our own we cannot elude the desires of the flesh. Christ knows this and He thus came to save us from our evil nature. Remain connected to Him. He will not fail you.
