In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 3:1-2 NIV

Are you searching for the kingdom of heaven? Is this where we shall spend eternity after our mortal bodies pass away? We can answer yes to the second question if we are believers in Christ. Yet, we must look further into this passage.

John preached that the kingdom of heaven is near. Do we need to consider the kingdom of heaven, not just as a place, but as a state of being? If Christ indwells us through the Holy Spirit, can we not say that the kingdom of God resides in our heart and soul. Is it not a state through which our words and actions are reflected? Are not we, the followers of Christ, living the kingdom of God as we take each breath for the Lord, diligently doing the work given us, doing our part to aid in finding lost souls for the Lord?

The kingdom of God is not some far-away place, a place which we must wait to see upon our earthly death. The kingdom of heaven is near! The kingdom of heaven is at hand!
