Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To God’s holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:1-2 NIV
It was by the will of God that Paul became an apostle of Jesus Christ. It is also by God’s will that we are believers in Christ. You might ask why this is so, as we must choose to accept Christ. It is through the perfect plan of the Heavenly Father that Christ dwelled among us as a man, died for our sins, and arose on the third day and sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding on behalf of those who believe in Him. So, if it were not for the Father’s plan, we would not have had Christ, so that we could believe in Him. In Matthew 18:14 Jesus lets us know that it is the Father’s will that none should perish. So, it is God’s will, not man’s that we can be believers in Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace come to us from Jesus Christ. The dictionary says that grace is “unmerited divine assistance given humans for their salvation”. It is also defined as a virtue coming from God. We cannot generate grace from within us. It is truly a gift from the creator. The peace of Christ is unlike the peace of this world. Any peace this world can offer is short term and conditional. Christ’s peace is everlasting, and can only be understood by those who belong to Him.
Just as Paul shared Christ’s grace and peace with the Ephesians, we can share the grace and peace given to us by Christ with those we meet in our lives.
