“But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. And so you will bear testimony to me. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life." Luke 21:12-19 NIV
We can see from today’s passage that it will be very difficult times during the tribulation for those who belong to Christ. Yet, those for Christ will be given words to speak which cannot be contradicted.
How can we apply this passage to ourselves today? Have you ever wondered what to say when witnessing to someone about Jesus? I am sure most of us have wondered at times what to say. Let’s begin with what we can, first of all, do. We can live our lives and do actions which are in accord with that which the Lord would have us do. If you have peace and joy truly inside your heart, it will show through to others. You may be questioned by someone as to the peace and joy which show through you. When speaking at first to someone about Jesus, you might want to consider sharing from your life, rather than sharing doctrine. Plant a seed with the person. If you see that person again, you can work with the planted seed. If you don’t see that person again, pray that God will send someone else to work with the planted seed. People would like to hear how you are the way you are rather than about doctrine, or at least at first. Just share honestly about how the Lord is working in your life, how He has changed your life, and what it means to you. Let that seed be nurtured in the one to whom you speak. In whatever you share, choose not to worry about your words. Pray ahead of time that the Lord, through the Holy Spirit will give you the words to speak. God will certainly help you in the advancement of His kingdom.
