Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So, come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?” When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing. Those who are narrow minded in the spiritual realm are mindful of laws that are man-made. Laws of the heart have no place in their world. There were times when Jesus had to put the leaders of His time in their proper place, for they did not teach that which was important to God.

Why should not one be healed on a Sabbath? Jesus would like true healing for all mankind. Yet, we are given the choice to pick between things of God and things of this world.

Those who belong to Christ have minds and hearts that are expanded beyond the short-sightedness of those who belong to this world. Those who belong to Christ have compassion each day, including the Sabbath. Healing work is not withheld because it is the Sabbath. Let Christ’s love reign in your heart and you will be full of love and compassion each and every day, including the Sabbath.
