Repent or You Will Die

I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ Luke 13:5-7 NIV

The first verse in this passage is so important that Jesus had first uttered the same words two verses earlier (verse 3). One cannot have eternal life, spent in the presence of God, without having repented from their birth into the slavery of sin. One must repent in order to come to Christ. One cannot serve Christ and also serve worldly treasures. It just cannot happen. The owner of the fig tree in the above parable is God Himself, and the fruit is all of mankind. Good fruit represents those who follow the Lord and give their lives over to Him. Those who are unbelievers are those who do not bear good fruit. A bad tree cannot bear good fruit, nor can a good tree bear bad fruit. At some point in time, the tree which does not bear good fruit will be brought down, and cast into the fire. Each of us have our appointed time when we will appear before the Lord to give an accounting for all which we have done while on this earth. I pray that when your time comes to stand before the Master, He will look upon you and let you know that you have given good fruit for Him
