A Divided World

Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” Luke 12:51-53 NIV

So, Jesus came to bring division to this world. It is not though as if Jesus wanted division. But, He knew that not all would accept the free gift which He offered. He knew the division would exist between those who sought desires of this world and those who sought heavenly treasures. So, you could say that it is we humans who brought the division by choosing not to be in one accord with God.

The division is not just between nations, or between cities. The division goes down to the household and family level. How sad it is that father will turn against son, and mother against daughter. We have so much discord, even within families because we do not all choose to follow God. This though is nothing new. It goes back all the way through the history of mankind.

With all the division which exists it is no wonder that Jesus said He sends us out like sheep among wolves. We, the sheep of Christ must do as our shepherd has commanded us. We know that when His kingdom comes the lamb will lie down with the lion.
