The cross where Jesus was lifted up
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was different from all other crucifixion that ever happened.
The cross-which was a symbol of the highest public shame and punishment was meant for the most brutal and cruel criminals, however at the crucifixion of Jesus, the cross bore the body of the innocent, unblemished Lamb of God.
Those who crucified Jesus thought it was just a normal public punishment,
yet the way the nature responded (Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. (Matt 27:45), the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised(Matt 27:51-52),
the way people responded (the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!” Matt. 27:54),
proved that this truly was ‘The Son of God’.
“Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. “
John 8:28 NKJV
It was the cross where Jesus was lifted up, for the world to see the love of God for all of us.
Jesus said…
“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
John 12:32 NKJV
The crucifixion of Jesus is no more a means of shame and ridicule or a symbol of punishment for the sinful,
Rather now it is known as the expression of the love of the Master and of the pardon received from God for a repentant sinner.
Today millions and much more across the world thank God for the redemption received through the crucifixion of Jesus and the hope received through His Resurrection.
Jesus has provided us in perfect obedience to the Father our much awaited and desired redemption, can we provide Him glory through our lives in all we do ?
“Come, and see the victories of the cross. Christ’s wounds are thy healings, His agonies thy repose, His conflicts thy conquests, His groans thy songs, His pains thine ease, His shame thy glory, His death thy life, His sufferings thy salvation.”
Matthew Henry
