Why Build a Wall?

Protection of course; from our enemies of which we have many.

Do you think it’s right to build a wall? There are some in our country who absolutely think it’s wrong. It’s always been that way, folks. This is not new.

Way back in the days of Nehemiah, the prophet, Jerusalem had the same problem. And guess what they did? They prayed and they built the wall.

They had strong opposition who was spreading lies about them; vicious rumors and finally threatening to fight them and stir up trouble. Does any of this sound familiar?

Jerusalem had been invaded and the wall had been torn down but Nehemiah said, “Let us rebuild the wall.”

When a guy named Sanballat stirred up his followers and began ridiculing them, Nehemiah said, “The God of heaven will give us success.”

Sanballat and his followers became angry and plotted together to fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble. “But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night.”

Sanballat began to spread lies and rumors but “I prayed for strength. Our God will fight for us,” said Nehemiah

And Nehemiah finally prayed and asked God, “Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, because of what they have done.” And the wall was completed.

What’s the common denominator here in getting the wall built? Do you see it?

Well, I’ll tell you. They prayed and they prayed and they prayed some more, to God. They prayed for protection and they prayed for guidance. We can do no less; those of us who believe the wall must be built.

We must support our leaders with prayer. We must support the builders of the wall with prayer. We must support those who are chosen to protect the builders with prayer. And the wall will be completed.
