Jesus said, “I am the bread of life+ (John 6:48). “This bread is my flesh.” (John 6:51). “If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever.” (John 6:51).

Then the Jews began to argue sharply (John 6:52) among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

The answer to this question is in the first chapter of the Book of John.

John 1:1…”In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”……”The Word became flesh (John 1:14) and made his dwelling among us.”

Now we know from reading this and also the first chapter of 1 John that the Word is Jesus Christ. And so we see the answer to the question in John 6:52 is this:

Jesus Christ is the Word and the Word became flesh. Jesus tells us to feed on his flesh. The Word.

To us in today’s world, the Word is the Bible. Jesus is telling us that the Word, the Bread of Life, is the Bible. We are to feed on the Word. We are to read the Bible and digest the Word. Without it, our heart and soul and mind are starving.

If you fail to read the Word you are putting your heart, soul and mind on a spiritual diet and that is not healthy for a Christian life.

In Acts 17:11 we read that the Bereans were of more noble character because they studied the Scriptures daily. That’s what we need to do.

Feed your heart, soul and mind, not just your belly. You will live longer. In fact, you will live forever. I know because God told me in John 6:51. You would know too if you read it.
