Walk in Light

Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” John 12:35-36a NIV

What would mankind do if they knew they were going to have the light of the sun for only a little while longer? We would all certainly perish if we did not have the sun to provide warmth and light to us. When Jesus told us that we would only have the light from Him with us for only a little while longer, we could have faced a fate much worse than the sun not shining on us. But, Jesus promised to those who believe in Him that a comforter, the Holy Spirit would be sent to them. Once Jesus left us in human form, His light was gone to unbelievers. Jesus does watch over all of creation, but the light that radiated from Him while He was amongst us as a human is not found in the unbeliever. The unbeliever is in the dark, and cannot see where he is walking. The unbeliever does not see the undesired eternal fate which awaits them. Although the believer does not see what all lies ahead for them in life, they trust in the Lord, knowing they will be provided for, and that their eternity will be with the Lord and the Heavenly Father.

Those who belong to Christ know that He is the light which provides true life. We who believe are children of God, or, here as Jesus says, children of the light. With the light provided by Christ, we can walk knowing we are walking on the narrow path that leads us to our eternity with the Father and the Son. Christ will guide us on the narrow path through the presence of the Holy Spirit. We are assured of this as Christ has told us that He will not turn away anyone who truly comes to Him. We will not be left alone as orphans. No one given to Christ by the Father will be lost.

Now, let us go about doing the work the Lord has given to us. We have the light we need to walk in the way He leads us!!
