A Single or Many Seeds?

Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” John 12:23-26 NIV

What a profound scripture reading we have herein. Unless we die to ourselves, to our worldly desires and wants, we remain a single seed. A single seed is alone and on its own cannot do much. But, when we die to ourselves, our Lord can take over our lives for us. We then can do much for the advancement of God’s kingdom. We will thus then produce many seeds. We will be vessels our Lord will use to produce much fruit through us. What we must do is choose to accept Him as our Savior, and let Him be at the center of our being.

Those who love their lives will lose them. They will be slaves to their own desires and to what the world can provide to them, which is far from what is needed. What is needed is true love, a true sense of purpose to life, and this can only be provided through coming to Jesus Christ. This does come at a cost. The price is dying to self. But, through dying to self, eternal life is gained through Jesus Christ. We must let go of our earthly life in terms of worldly desires. We will be provided with what we truly need.

Jesus tells us that if we follow Him, He will be with us. What a beautiful assurance we have here. We can know our Lord will always be with us, as he tells us so here. The Father will honor the one who serves the Son.

What more of an invite do we need than this? Let us follow the Lord and He will be with us, and so will our Heavenly Father. Let us share with the world the awesome gifts the Father and the Son offer to us.
