If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-7 NIV

This is a wonderful scripture reading about love. Herein Paul tells us what is entailed in love, and what we are if we do not have love. This then speaks much about the power of love. Without love we are just a noisy gong. Without love we are just noise and clamor. Without love we cannot expect to be remembered as being truly useful to society. What kind of legacy can we expect to leave if we do not have love? As Paul says, without love we are nothing. Without love we certainly cannot find true meaning to life, for without love we will never belong to Christ. Without love we cannot truly expect to gain anything of true worth. We may gain worldly possessions without love, but some day they will be gone. Do you want to have what is of true value? Then, you must love. Paul tells us main characteristics which either are or are not contained within love. To truly love as Paul states in this scripture reading, our hearts, minds, and souls certainly need to belong to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ can, and will fill the hearts of those who turn to Him with true love. The one who truly loves Jesus will love others. The power which is released within the individual who loves Jesus is limitless. We need to have the love which Christ has, and trust in Him for all that we need.

When we fail to be loving, we can turn to Christ and ask for forgiveness. If we approach Christ with a humble and repentant heart, we will be forgiven and be able to love again as Christ would have us do. Follow in the footsteps of Jesus, give yourself totally to Him, and watch the awesome power of love, the power of His love work within you! AMEN!!
