Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” John 6:53-58 NIV
Jesus warns all about the need to eat His flesh and drink His blood. Christ, through His crucifixion and shedding of His blood is our Redeemer. We have been pardoned of our sin and made acceptable to the Heavenly Father. We have all the promises associated with the New Covenant established through Christ, and we are given eternal life. All of this belongs to us because our Lord lovingly sacrificed Himself on our behalf. It is a gift given to us freely. We must remember that we have not done nor will be able to do anything to deserve this precious gift. Eating Christ’s flesh and drinking His blood provide spiritual nourishment to our souls. Without this nourishment we would die spiritually. Through faith in Christ, we follow in His footsteps, doing the work He gives us for the advancement of God’s kingdom. Through our continued remembrance of our Lord’s suffering for our salvation, we live in Him and receive all the benefits that come from a life lived in Jesus Christ. Because of Christ we have true life, a life which is not available in any manner other than coming to Him and totally surrendering our life to Him. Those who had eaten the manna in the desert died, but all those who feast on Jesus Christ shall live forever!
Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus, thank you so much for your word to us. It is our spiritual nourishment. We have shared the past four days the verses about the Bread of Life. Jesus, you truly are the spiritual nourishment we need to have true and eternal life. There is no other way but through You! Help us to always be mindful of the outpouring of abundant love and mercy that the Heavenly Father and You, Lord Jesus give to us! May we praise and glorify You in all we do and say for all the days of our lives, AMEN!!
