“Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:43-51 NIV

I look at this passage and what comes to mind is a spiritual feast. You know what it is like to sit down to a big Thanksgiving Day feast, right? Well, here is a true spiritual feast for which we all can truly be thankful! Sit down with me and enjoy the spiritual nourishment provided by our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We will be filled abundantly!

We who know and love our Lord have been drawn to Him by the Heavenly Father. It is all part of the Heavenly Father’s wonderful, perfect plan! Jesus is the only one who has truly seen the Heavenly Father. We who believe in and have given our hearts, minds, and souls to our saving Lord, have received the gift of eternal life. It has begun on earth, and it will continue when we separate from our human bodies and receive our glorious heavenly bodies. There is no possible way for us now to fathom the depth of what we have in eternal life. Our brains are too feeble to be able to comprehend all that we shall receive.

The people hearing this discourse of Jesus had asked Him for a sign, like the receiving of the manna by the ancestors of those listening to Jesus. Here Jesus tells the people that even though their ancestors had received the manna, yet they died. Manna has nothing to do with receiving Jesus, the Savior of the world. The people did not have their hearts in the proper place. However, Jesus is the true spiritual bread of life, the bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of Jesus shall never face spiritual death, but shall have eternal life with the Trinity!

Jesus did give His flesh as life for the world. He gave His body willingly. He suffered a brutal death so that we may receive a wonderful true life, a life we will not fully comprehend until we see heaven. Jesus did this lovingly, even as we are sinners. He provides us with a life that no one else can possibly provide.

Lord Jesus, you and the Heavenly Father provide spiritual nourishment in abundance to us, your children. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your everlasting, overflowing love and mercy! May we praise and honor you always, AMEN!!
