Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:35-40 NIV
Jesus wastes no time here getting to the real truth; He is the Bread of Life. Without Jesus in our life, we have no true meaning to life within us. But, with Him as our Savior we have true life, a life full of abundance, a life which will not end when our earthly body perishes. Jesus tells us that those who come to Him will never hunger or thirst. This hunger and thirst is for spiritual nourishment, for real truth to life, for seeking what is righteous and loving. This hunger and thirst is for seeking God’s will and for His glorification.
Jesus warns those of His day, and us as well today, that if we do not know Him and believe in Him, we will never have eternal life, life with the Father and the Son.
It is the Heavenly Father’s will that all who come to Jesus shall be saved, and have eternal life through Him. No one who truly comes to Jesus shall be turned away. The Father sent His only Son to earth so that His will for mankind might be accomplished. Our minds are so finite in understanding the extent of the Father’s love for us. Jesus’ love for us is revealed in that He carried out the will of the Heavenly Father. Jesus sacrificed His life for us so that through Him we might be saved and have everlasting life!
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us Your Son to be the Bread of Life. You know what we truly need, and provide for us abundantly. Lord Jesus, thank you for carrying out the Father’s will and being our Savior. May we praise you both, along with the Holy Spirit, giving you glory, honor, and all that is within us forever and ever AMEN!!
