Seeking True Value

“I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” John 5:43-44 NIV

Jesus’ statement herein is as true today as when He walked this earth as a human.

In His time among us in the flesh, many sought the approval of those other than God. The Pharisees and others sought recognition in the synagogue and marketplace and elsewhere. Their dress and manner of action showed clearly that which they sought. Others sought earthly wealth or other recognition. All of this was in vain though, as it did not follow those people into their graves.

Today, with the advance of technology, people do the same as those living when Jesus walked the earth. Politicians, musicians, public figures, and those in business are followed by countless individuals. Many seek stock market sites, sports web sites, and many other places of interest. How many turn to on-line bibles for scripture nourishment, or other sites proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ? I am sure these web sites are not frequented as often as those of earthly matters.

Today’s world is so noisy and busy and full of distractions. Our attention is diverted away from our Lord way too much. We must diligently work at providing ourselves with adequate time to be with our Lord in prayer and in reading Holy Scripture. We must work hard at doing the will of the Father and the Son. The evil one will use any and all means to keep us from the union we have with our Heavenly Father and His Son who is our Savior and Lord.

Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ, help us to be ever mindful of your everlasting love and mercy for us. Aid us in overcoming the distractions in our lives which keep us away from true value, the value which comes from time spent with you. Lead us always in your ways and help us to be the vessels through which your true light can be seen by mankind! May we always seek your glory rather than recognition from man. AMEN!!
