“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” John 5:36-40 NIV

The works which Jesus performed, the works given to Him by the Father to do certainly testified on behalf of Jesus. Jesus could not have done what He did if He had not come from the Father. In spite of all the marvelous works that Jesus performed, the Pharisees, scribes, Sadducees, and teachers of the law, chose to be blind to them. The Heavenly Father spoke from heaven about His Son when Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River and when Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John. We also read in John 12:28 “Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again." The Father therefore did testify on behalf of the Son. No one on earth has seen the face of God, only He who came down from heaven. He came to reveal the Heavenly Father to mankind.

The above people diligently read the scriptures , seeking to learn about the coming Messiah, yet they were so blind that they could not see that the Messiah stood before them. He was present to them. He was and is Jesus Christ. The Messiah that these people sought would be an earthly king, a warrior who returned the promised-land to the Israelites. Their minds were so limited as to what they believed could be possible. With God all things are possible, yet these people chose not to believe in the Father, and the Son whom He had sent. The scriptures speak abundantly about Jesus, yet these people did not believe Jesus was the one of whom the scriptures spoke.

We who have had our hearts and souls touched by the Lord know of the testifying about Jesus contained within the scriptures. We read the bible to receive spiritual nourishment. We know the bible is the Word of God and that we would be spiritually dead without the nourishment it provides to us. We have been blessed so abundantly by our Lord! His love for us is more than we could possibly imagine! We must advance His kingdom by carrying out the work given to us. We shall spend eternity with the Heavenly Father and the Son! May the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be praised forever for all that is given to us! AMEN!!
