Multitudes Fed by Christ Today

In the first 13 verses of the sixth chapter of the gospel according to John we read the account of Jesus feeding over 5000 men, along with women and children from what was provided, which were five small loaves of bread and two fish.

I would like to provide an analogy to three facts from this reading. The first fact is that Phillip said the cost would be dear to provide even a bite to each of those present (more than one half year’s wages). The second fact is that Jesus did provide food for all, and each had their fill. Finally, there was an abundant amount remaining, as the disciples gathered twelve baskets of left over morsels.

The analogy is to compare this event from the life of Christ to today.

First, Christ provides food for the spirit to those who believe in Him. We can read the Holy Bible to nourish our soul. In fact we must do this to avoid a spiritually depraved soul. Also, the Trinity indwell the believer. This is such a wonderful gift to the believer. We can then carry on the work the Lord has given to us. Secondly, there is no monetary cost for these gifts. They are given to us freely by a merciful and loving Jesus and the Heavenly Father. The price is not monetary. Instead, Christ wants our hearts, minds and souls. He wants us to be devoted totally to Him. Lastly, there is an abundance left over after we are filled. The portion remaining is represented by us taking the Good News about our Lord Jesus Christ and sharing it with the world. The gift of a true spiritual life is not to be kept to ourselves like a hidden treasure. It is meant to be shared, and to be shared abundantly.

So there we have the analogy between Christ feeding the multitudes nearly 2000 years ago and Christ feeding us today.

Lord Jesus, may we humble ourselves before you and allow you to use us as your vessels so that the abundance of the Good News of You may be shared with all mankind! AMEN!!
