“When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” John 4:7-10 NIV

Isn’t it wonderful that our Lord and Savior discarded all the man-made rules which serve no purpose for the advancement of God’s kingdom?

Here He is, a Jew, speaking with a Samaritan woman. That just didn’t occur in those days. Our Lord knew though that this woman’s heart was ripe for the picking. He knew what the conversation would entail.

His response to the woman’s first statement is wonderful. It leads the conversation to where He wishes it to go. Evidently the words and deeds of Jesus had not yet reached the Samaritan town from which this woman came. He speaks to this woman about Living Water, a gift given by God to those who believe in Jesus Christ.

If Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman at a well, certainly He will speak to anyone who comes to Him. Living Water is a gift being offered to all those who come to Jesus with a sincere heart, seeking the Lord as one’s Savior and redeemer.

May the Living Water always reside in your heart and soul!
