God's Definition of Greatness

In this fiercely competitive world, people look for all sorts of ways to get ahead. They engage in immoral and unethical practices of lying, cheating, being deceitful and some even go as far as committing violent crimes and murder. What an alternative Jesus offers! He forthrightly tells the disciples if they really want to be leaders they must first learn to serve others. That’s what produces great leaders.

Furthermore, we realize that Jesus set the example. Matthew 20:28 reveals that “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Do you know of any earthly kings willing to do that? This is something that an earthly king would not do. But the big difference is that Jesus is not an earthly king. He is the King of kings!

Jesus told Pontius Pilate that His kingdom was not of this earth. In this verse, He specifically tells us that He will give His life to save many people. Mankind is definitely in need of salvation. We are all sinners and the only way for us to be reconciled to the Father is through the blood that Jesus Christ shed for us on the cross. By believing in Him, trusting in Him, and being obedient followers, we have salvation and are reconciled to our heavenly Father.
