God Winks

We parked the car and headed to our favorite home improvement center. We needed new shutters for our home.  We wanted exactly the same ones, even the same color.  What a disappointment to find they no longer carried Boat House Blue. My husband saw my disappointment but told me the paint department still carried the color and we could paint them ourselves. Problem solved, we placed our order and headed home.

Soon our order arrived. We stored it away for a few days almost dreading the labor involved.  Early one morning Richard went out to the boxes. He opened the first and slowly pulled out the shutter. We looked at each other in shock.  It was our favorite color.  We said nothing.  He opened one box after another, then put his arm around me and smiled, “We will never know how this happened, but our shutters don’t need paint.”

Do you think God is capable of changing shutter colors? Actually I only have knowledge of him changing leaves on trees, sunsets, and the seasons. But I believe He wants so much to be a part of our lives that He loves to send us little God winks to make us turn our head  and wonder and smile.

What a bum rap God gets, being blamed for the bad things in life. I grew up believing He was hard to please and most of the time I just couldn’t make the score. Is that where you are in life?  If so, I am here to tell you He’s not mad at you, He’s mad about you!  He tells us, “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (NIV)   He changes everything.
