REQUEST

I awake, as if from slumber
But the slumber was my life.
I partake, the paint by number
But it leaves me cold as ice.
I withdraw my hand and fold now
For it's easier you see
Than to stake my fate on semblance
Of the Man on Calvary.

I convinced myself a long time
That I pleased Him; albeit seldom
Yes, my love was quite a showcase
And it eased heartfelt abandon.
I would change the world real slowly
Just a fragment at a time
When the time became convenient
And that surely eased my mind.

But the light has now illumined
And I have no place to run.
He has shown me that my faith cry
Without works is but undone.
Father of mercy, kill complacency
And the cowardice and the lies
And teach me God to honor You
With my all, Lord Jesus Christ.
