Why does the apostle Peter refer to protecting Noah from the great flood, the preacher of righteousness, as the "eighth person?" I propose it's for the same simple reason that Abraham gave his nephew first choice in selecting the land in Genesis 13 v.8-12. Noah was putting his seven other family members first the same way that Abraham was putting his nephew first, because that unselfish trait of preferring others had by that time been worked into their respective characters as they had walked daily with God in an intimate relationship. How fitting that such a gesture be at the foundation of the new world following the flood, and at the "ground level" outset of the appropriation of the land that nation of Israel had been promised it would occupy!
