Jesus Christ our Intercessor

The act of grace from our Savior did not stop at the cross. It was only the beginning. As Christ Jesus rose from the dead and ascend up to heaven back to His Father He became our High Priest, our Intercessor.

He is sitting at the right hand of His Father interceding on our behalf:

“Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives for ever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Such a high priest meets our need-one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer other sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for their sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect for ever.” Hebrews 7:23-28 NIV

NOT BY ONESELF
The intercessor thus understands that it is not because oneself that one enters the holy of holies to make intercession for the world before our High Priest in heaven. It is all because He offered himself once and for all for our sins that the intercessor can go into the holy of holies.

However as we walk the path of righteousness in grace we sadly forget on what basis we enter the holy of holies. Somewhere pride starts to creep in our walk with Jesus Christ and it is then that we no longer enter the holy of holies in humbleness based on grace but based on our “goodness”.

The latter condition of entering into the holy of holies is a dangerous avenue. It is a path leading to disaster. As I have written before that our priorities in this life starts with our priorities we have towards our relationship with Christ Jesus and that it affects the rest of our lives.

In the same way as we turn the wrong direction in our walk with Christ Jesus it starts to affect the rest of our lives in a very negative way. Our relationships become sour as we start to live the same attitude toward the people around as, as we show towards our Heavenly Father; our finance, our callings, our
careers; everything aspect of our lives suffer.

It is then that we cannot go into the holy of holies as clean vessels. We become unusable vessels as intercessors and we lose the spontaneity in our fellowship with our Heavenly Father. This condition is very dangerous and it often takes years before that spontaneity returns in our fellowship with the Trinity.

And it is in this spontaneity that intercession takes place and develops into maturity. Therefore the intercessor needs to guard his/her heart against pride and selfishness in order to stay in that place of intimidate fellowship.

Peter instructed his fellow brothers and sisters:

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever.
Amen.” 1 Peter 5: 6-11 NIV

Therefore once again it is the attitude of the heart that features in fellowship with the Heavenly Father.

True humbleness comes only from a pure heart and a steadfast spirit which worships the Lord in spirit and in truth.

THE UPKEEP OF A PURE HEART

“Above else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4: 23

This scripture is well known among everyone who ever studied the Scriptures but the practicalities surrounding the scripture regarding our everyday Christian life has been escaping most of us. We read it and we hear it; however we never put it into practice in our lives in our walk with the Spirit.

To guard our hearts is such a serious instruction from our Lord Jesus Christ that He has included weaponry in His armor we can use to protect our hearts as given in Ephesians 6.

They are the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.

As we look at protecting our hearts from the viewpoint of the armor of God it opens up a whole new picture for us to make it practical and easy for us to understand:

-The first practical thing regarding protecting our hearts that it is a daily process. We are in a spiritual war wherever we go into the world outside and we cannot afford to be caught without our spiritual weapons. We need to clothe ourselves each day before the feet of Jesus Christ before starting each new
day.


-We have to know our stand in Christ Jesus. If we understand our standing in righteousness that is through the blood of atonement that Jesus Christ had shed for us we never again have to succumb to the doubts regarding our identity and we can take authority in Jesus name over the strongholds in our lives attacking our hearts and minds.

In our righteous standing in Christ Jesus we have authority and it is by exercising this authority that we our protecting our hearts daily. Let’s face it; we are not living in a perfect world. We all are going through trials and difficulties that make it necessary for us to take up our authority in Christ Jesus.

One scripture which opened it all up for me was Roman 3: 22-24:

“This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short to the glory of God, and are justified through the by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus” NIV

If we therefore understand that in Christ Jesus lays our stand in righteousness not because of our good works or our goodness but in what He done for us by shedding his blood, we shall be shedding our self-condemnation as well as our take on our authority in Christ Jesus as needed so that we can obtain
victory in His wonderful name.

-We need to take on our shield of faith daily as well. Just as Abba Father uses us as instruments for His kingdom satan uses his instruments as well for the battle between darkness and light. And as we go through our daily lives it is inevitable that we shall receive darts from satan’s instruments.

As we learn to understand that the attack does not come from the persons itself but from the spirits of the dark forces in them we began to begin to use our shield of faith through forgiveness and thankfulness as well as rejoicing in the Lord in the time of attack. This is pretty much faith in action.

Real faith applies the principles of God’s kingdom even in doubt. Few believers in Christ Jesus understand that doubt is not sin. It is when that doubt changes into unbelief that you are opening yourself to further attacks of the enemy making you to sin and rebel against the Almighty God.

Therefore the best strategy is to conquer unbelief is to apply the principles of God’s kingdom in that situation certain situation, for by applying the principles helps you to focus on God and not on the situation itself making it possible for you to give God permission to intervene in that situation through
His power and grace.

To take authority is not a science many theologians want to make it. The best battles are won by every day normal people that live in obedience towards the Holy Spirit and His Word. They are the warriors, not the educated people who are depending on their own knowledge and wisdom.

Wisdom does not matter to God. Obedience is the only key to a fulfilled life where authority is taken over the enemy and the abundant life is a reality, making Jesus Christ a reality to a dark world that need light desperately.

-The Word of God as the sword of the Spirit gives us the ability to fight truth with deception, power with powerlessness, hope with hopelessness, light with darkness, life with death as well as unbelief with faith.


Hebrews 4: 12 “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even the dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” NIV

By taking Abba Father on His Word and walking daily in obedience in the Word we are fighting with the sword of the Spirit taking actively part in the fight against the enemy by taking authority against the enemy in Christ Jesus.
