Parable of the Weeds


Narrator: A farmer planted good seed in his field.

Farmer: “I, the farmer, plant my seed That many people I may feed. I plant, and water, and tend my field, So that much grain will be my yield.”

Narrator: While he was asleep, an enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat and went away….

Enemy: “The enemy sneaks in darkest night to sow the seeds before it’s light. To choke the seeds that turn to grain. The farmer’s loss is the enemy’s gain."

Narrator: As the wheat came up the weeds appeared as well. The servants came to the farmer saying…

Servants: The weeds, the weeds, how can this be? Have healthy seeds created these? Master, Master, tell us, please, How do we get rid of these?

Narrator: The farmer replied……

Farmer: The Enemy alone has done this deed, among the sheaves of wheat has planted his seed. To choke my wheat that makes our bread. So God’s people won’t be fed!”

Servants: “Shall we dig and gather these awful weeds, that choke the plants, Sir, tell us, please?” From early morn, from sun to sun, We’ll do the work until it’s done.”

Farmer: The weeds will just be left to grow among the wheat, it must be so. I will teach you and you will learn, the grain to harvest, the weeds to burn.

Narrator: At harvest time the reapers collected the weeds and gathered them in bundles to be burned and much wheat was gathered into the farmer’s barns for food for God’s people.
