Grief

Help me Lord
To see beyond my finite senses
And have understanding.
Show me where You are leading me,
For I long to follow.

My longing heart gnaws within me
For the assurance of Your saving grace.
As I dig deeper into this reservoir of pain,
Only more sorrow and longing are revealed.
Sorrow for what seems forever lost,
And longing for the fulfillment
Of desires and dreams yet to be.

Caught in the Refiner's crucible
Faith and patience wear thin
As I wait for the release
Of these burdens I carry.
Retreating into a world of fantasy
Which leads my heart astray,
I dream of a better day
Where life is easy, and my heart
Is full of light and joy once again.

The Refiner's fire gets hotter,
And seems as though the end
Of this intense suffering
Will never come.
Release me, Lord, to love again.
Free my soul and spirit
To soar above the clouds.
Take these burdens
For they are too heavy for me,
And let me live and enjoy life once again.
