On My Way to Pluto
For some reason, I found it unusually difficult to climb the sleep ladder last night. Perhaps, the best way to induce insomnia is not by drinking coffee, but try engaging Ravi at the philosophical level and sleep will flee the eyes. So I played along and allowed my mind to wander absolutely unguarded. That was when my mind took me to the Pluto mission. Alas, I said to myself, something worthy to occupy my mind with. I began to ponder and asked myself some obvious questions. Why would God create such an extremely large universe and confine man to a very minute part of it? I wondered why the vast space and time that spans into millions of light years. Of what use are all those planetary bodies to man? Just so you know, The Milky Way galaxy in which we live contains over 100 billion stars, and is so large that even traveling at the speed of light would require 100,000 years to cross its diameter. So it is legitimate after all to wonder. I must confess I falsely assumed that overwhelming my brain cells with a barrage of complicated questions would cause it to shut down and induce my long awaited sleep but I was mistaken. So I grabbed my note pad and decided to scribble down whatever my thoughts shall say unto me and where ever it shall lead me, already I was space walking to Pluto. It wasn’t long when the response to my complicated questions dawned in my heart.
“How does man express the wonder I placed in his heart if there is no transcendent and a largely unexplainable phenomenon to hold on to?” A still voice said to me. “I placed in the heart of man the desire to dream and explore, conquer and imagine, aspire and express his thrills and delight in his accomplishments and how do you expect such longings and cravings to be satisfied if the earth is all there is to life. Don’t you think life would be extremely mundane if there were no adventures?” The voice demanded. At this point, I was sure the morsel of spaghetti I took for dinner, had conspired with my brains to mock me but I kept on writing. “You see Kwame; beneath your question of the vastness of the universe is a fundamental failure to see what the universe is all about. It is about the greatness of me and not man. I made man small and the universe big to say something about myself. And i say it for you to learn and enjoy—namely, that i am infinitely great and powerful and wise and beautiful. I did that so you could depend and trust in me at all times to supply all your needs and take care of you throughout your journey on earth.”
“Did you not read about what the morning stars and the sons of God did when I unveiled my Great Design? “They sang together, danced and all shouted for joy in complete awe and wonder.” I know that even in your stubbornness, you see my hand in this Great Design; you see the beauty of my hand in all my works. “The stars scream out my name, the galaxies declare my majesty, the moons display my glory but man bears my glory.” “Kwame”, he called again; I delight that the sons of man shall discover what I have hidden in the depths of the Universe but I expect man to see my foot prints in all these, but sadly many do not.”

Kwame, Jastrow, the renowned scientist and atheist who even refuses to believe in me described it all in these noteworthy words, “For the scientist who has lived by faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountain of ignorance: He is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries” I am glad you are already seated at the top of the highest peak, brace yourself to greet your brothers when they finally meet you up there. Good night naughty boy!!! You are permitted to sleep now. And so I woke up this morning, not being able to remember how and when I feel asleep but I did and here you have this to read. Enjoy the long weekend.
