Times of Change

Have you ever noticed how we seem to not like change? We seem to get comfortable in something or the way that something is or was and really would prefer to just stay that way. Yet, in God this creates a problem.

Many churches died because they are stuck in a rut. God moved in their midst in some way and they liked what He did so they built an alter and decided this is the way to do things. The problem is that even though God himself does not change, his ways and methods are forever changing. Just because he did something one way this time does not mean he will do it the same way next time. If we are not careful, God will move on and we will stay where we are because we like it. We have to become flexible with the Lord. We maybe forget that we did like the way he did things before so why wouldn't we like the new things that He wants to do? I think of these scriptures:

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Revelations 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

When the Holy Spirit changes direction we must be open to the change if we are going to experience His work and presence. Notice He says all things become new. For all things to become new then all of the old is gone otherwise it is not all new. That means change. If we get stuck in a rut and do not allow change we will miss what the Lord is up too. We must stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit so we will know when He is directing in a new way. As long as it is the Holy Spirit no matter what He wants to do we will like it. It may be something that in our natural we don't want yet I have learned if it is God, I will like it. If I don't then He changes me so that I will. In walking with the Lord we learn that it does not matter what He wants as long as we get to go with him. His presence is worth far more than anything else.

We can and should Praise God for all that He has done in the past, yet we need to keep reaching forth to all those things which are ahead and new and be expectant and Praise Him for them.

Lord, forgive us where we are stuck in a rut. Help us to become flexible so that we may always go where ever you would choose. Cause us to be sensitive to your Holy Spirit leading that you may accomplish everything that you want to accomplish through us. Lead us by your Spirit.
