Dealing With Disappointment
© 2015

by

Stephen A. Peterson

You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little.

Haggai 1:9 (NIV)

For far too many getting what we want when we want it rather than wait and being patient is an extremely bitter pill to swallow. The point of disappointment is to learn not be bitter but become better in one’s life.

One can tell the character of a person by how much it takes to discourage and disappoint her/him. By climbing over and crushing those things and events that cause disappointment, a person proves her-/him-self greater than the obstacle standing before them.

Accept disappointments with hope and possibility. For no matter how a person tries to avoid disappointments, they are an inevitable part of living. There always have been some clouds without moisture, some rivers and streams without water, and some expectations without realization or come to fruition. Never give up! Never turn sour! There is always cause for hope even in the most desperate of situations. Just as the sun goes down every night, it also rises the next day with hope and life in its rays even on a cloudy day. So fear not, make the adjustments necessary, keep looking up to God, and keep striving! As God has something wonderful and more marvelous than you can even imagine!

Prayer:

Gracious Father, help me to remember that though I am disappointed at this time that You are present with me and will guide me through this valley to the hilltop of promise, goodness and salvation. Thank You for all that You have granted me. Amen.
